On Global Peer Support Celebration Day, we take a moment to honor all North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialists (NCCPSS) for the incredible work they do. Every day, they make a difference in people’s lives by sharing their experiences, offering compassion, and empowering others on their journey to recovery. Whether it's providing a supportive word, helping someone navigate through complex systems, or simply listening to someone going through a tough time, NCCPSS like YOU create safe spaces where hope and healing thrive.
We honor your strength, empathy, dedication, and most importantly, your commitment to recovery. You have shown that no one has to walk their healing journey alone, and for that, we say THANK YOU!
What is Global Peer Support Celebration Day (GPSCD)?
Global Peer Support Celebration Day (GPSCD) is an annual event held on the third Thursday of October, dedicated to recognizing the vital work of peer support specialists. The day serves not only as a celebration of those who help people facing mental health, addiction, and trauma challenges but also as an opportunity to raise public awareness about the importance of peer support services.
The Origins of GPSCD
The concept of GPSCD was born in 2014 at the International Association of Peer Supporters (iNAPS) conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Since then, the day has grown to become a recognized time for communities around the world to honor the work of peer supporters and highlight the positive impact they have on individuals' lives.
Leading the Celebration
In the United States, the National Association of Peer Supporters (N.A.P.S.) spearheads the celebration, advocating for peer support recognition and organizing initiatives that bring awareness to the significance of this role. Peer support specialists continue to be an invaluable part of the mental health and substance use recovery community, helping countless individuals rebuild their lives.
How to Get Involved
There are many ways to join the celebration and promote the value of peer support services:
Request a proclamation: Reach out to local government officials and request a proclamation recognizing GPSCD in your area. Use this opportunity to include information about the role of peer support specialists, the communities they serve, and the difference they make.
Plan an event: Host a special event, such as an open house, workshop, or press conference, where you can share stories of recovery, highlight the benefits of peer support, and celebrate local peer supporters.
Raise awareness on social media: Use your platform to share information about GPSCD and the impact of peer support services. Post stories, facts, or personal experiences to show how peer support changes lives.
